You have to look at the wattage of each light fixture and add them together. Then look at the Maximum wattage of the dimmer switch. Do not exceed the maximum wattage of the dimmer switch for instance If one fixture (light fixture) is 15 watts or volts (just an example) and the dimmer switch has a max. watt. of 50 W. you know you can run 3 light fixtures through that dimmer switch. Any more and you could cause problems with breakers, heat, and in severe cases fire but you can get different watt switches so don't just buy off the shelf at Home Depot ask a professional.
