Describe the main factors that have contributed to the adaptive radiation of Darwin's finches?

Fragmentation of habitat into islands was the main factor. Similar adaptive radiation has since been observed in several species,e.g salamanders, where habitat becomes fragmented by other means (land clearing, natural phenomena) or groups become isolated over time.
